A cycling holiday in Lofoten is an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Around virtually every corner you will find new, indescribably beautiful scenery. Sun or rain, calm or gales, any type of weather will provide you with truly unique and memorable experiences! As long as your clothes and equipment are appropriate, every trip will be a success. The route from Svolvær runs through picturesque fishing hamlets and towns, such as Henningsvær (the so-called 'Lofoten's Venice'), Nusfjord, listed on the UNESCO’s world heritage list, Reine and Sakrisøy. You cycle past Stone Age settlements, old boathouses, the world’s northernmost golf course, a doll museum and innumerable art galleries – you need to have your eyes and ears open and take time to visit some of the numerous attractions along the way. A bicycle trip through Lofoten will provide you with memories never to be forgotten!

The tour is a medium difficulty level and is suitable for people with average level of fitness; distance ridden every day is approx. 30 - 40 km per day. The tour is on full board basis and accommodation has mostly private facilities.

If you want to spend some more days in Lofoten, we recommend spending an extra day in Svolvær, with daily boat trips to the fabled Trollfjorden. Stop over in Oslo is also possible.

Price is based on 2 people sharing a room. It includes return flights, 1 night at Hotel Bodo, 6 nights accommodation with half-board (breakfast, dinner, packed lunch & refill of your thermos) in Lofoten, 1 night accommodation with breakfast + packed lunch + refill of your thermos (Svolvær), Hurtigruten ferry Bodø - Svolvær (day 2), Bike ferry Ballstad - Nusfjord, Ferry Moskenes - Bodø (day 9), map and tour description and bike hire from day 2 to day 9.

ITINERARY

Day 1
Fly with SAS scheduled flight to Bodo via Oslo. Overnight at Hotel Bodo.

Day 2

Morning at leisure. In the afternoon you'll take Hurtigruten boat to Svolvær, the capital of Lofoten. Overnight accommodation in Svolvær.

Day 3: Svolvær-Henningsvær – 24 km
From Svolvær, cycle over to ”Lofoten’s Venice”, Henningsvær. This enchanting fishing station is renowned for its unique atmosphere and architecture built around the fisheries industry. Overnight accommodation at Henningsvær Bryggehotell.

Day 4: Henningsvær – Hov – 32 km.
Today, explore the Stone Age settlements and boathouse ruins on Gimsøya. This is also the site of the Lofoten golf course, where you can play golf at midnight (equipment can be hired). Or why not to take an evening walk to the top of Mount Hoven (330 metres above the sea level). Overnight accommodation at Hov Guesthouse.

Day 5: Hov – Stamsund – 50 km.
From Smorten, the route follows the Rv 815 road (less traffic than on the main road), to a wild and dramatic landscape by the sea, with a wide range of animals and birds. Overnight accommodation at Skjærbrygga Stamsund Rorbuer.

Day 6: Stamsund – Ballstad – 33 km
Overnight accommodation at Kræmmervika Rorbuer.

Day 7: Ballstad – Nusfjord – take the boat via Nappstraumen to Nusfjord, a fishing station on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Cycle from Nusfjord via Sakrisøy to Reine, distance approx. 40 km. The route between Flakstadøy and Moskenesøy is dotted with attractive fishing stations. Overnight accommodation at Reine Rorbuer (2 nights).

Day 8: Resting day in Reine. Boat trips are organized from Reine to Refsvikhula and Moskenesstraumen, one of the strongest maelstroms in the world. Bicycle to Å and visit the Stockfish Museum. Hiking tours to Måstad, an abandoned fishing station with heritage-listed buildings including the school.

Day 9: Cycle to Moskenes and ferry boat to Bodø. From Moskenes, a ferry will take you to Bodø. Fly home on SAS scheduled flight via Oslo.

Hotel, Activity and Local Information

Accommodation in Lofoten

The accommodation is of varied standard mostly with private facilities. However some of the lodgings have joint bathrooms, showers, toilets in the corridor or basement. In Lofoten some of the accommodations are rorbuer (fishermans’ cabins). All accommodation is on full board basis including breakfast, packed lunch, dinner and re-fill of your thermos.

Hotel Bodø

Hotel Bodø enjoys a unique location, with the sea on one side of the hotel and the city centre with shops and restaurants on the other. It is a full-service hotel with excellent conference facilities. Bodø has wonderful scenery and the densest population of sea eagles in the world. You will always be able to catch a glimpse of this magnificent bird from one of the rooms. Hotel Bodø offers modernly furnished rooms and suites, many of them with sea-views. All rooms have a bath/shower, along with a telephone, mini-bar, hair-dryer, trouser press and TV.
