The royal kingdom of Denmark is one of the oldest in the world and has much history associated to it. Once the land of the notorious and brutal Vikings, and home to the poetic writer Hans Christian Andersen, Denmark now flourishes in a modern society combining its rich history with a stylish way of life.

Price is based on 2 people sharing a room and includes return flights to Copenhagen, all airport taxes, 3-nights at First Hotel Vesterbro in Copenhagen, 1 night at Radisson Blu Scandinavia in Aarhus, 1 night at Radisson Blu H.C. Anderson Hotel in Odense, car hire in 2 days (economy 4 door: Renault Clio or Ford Fiesta) inc. collision damage waiver, theft protection, third party liability insurance, unlimited mileage and VAT, tickets and car place on Mols-Linien ferry and bridge toll on Storebæltsbroen. Extra nights can be added in Copenhagen, Aarhus or Odense.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive Copenhagen
Fly on a scheduled airline to Copenhagen and check in to First Hotel Vesterbro for 1 night with evening free to familiarise yourself with the city.

Day 2: Copenhagen – Aarhus
Breakfast and pick up the rental car.

Depart from the capital, driving through Zealand and take the ferry from Odden to Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. Aarhus is a modern and vibrant city with a relaxed pace but without forgetting its Viking roots. Here you can visit Moesgaard museum; home of the Grauballe man, a 2000 year old bog body. Den Gamle By (the old town) is made of original houses from many different centuries and well recommended a visit to experience living Danish history as it once was. Or settle in to the modern culture by visiting Aros art museum or just relax at a café on the trendy canal front.

Day 3: Aarhus – Odense
Leave Jutland and the Vikings behind for the time being, and head for Funen and Odense the home of magical Fairy tales. And the birthplace of writer Hans Christian Andersen, this is where you will spend today. H.C.Andersens stories and fairy tales are famous worldwide; you can visit his childhood house and museum or take a guided tour to give you a full insight into the life and times of this much loved character.

Day 4: Odense – Copenhagen
Cross over the second largest suspension bridge in the world to Zealand and on to the Danish capital, Wonderful…. Wonderful…. Copenhagen. There are many attractions to see in this cultural city from Royal Palaces and Castles to the new Opera house and Tivoli gardens. Or just explore the many winding streets, enjoying the café life and admiring the many specialist and designer boutiques. Drop off the rental car.

Check in to First Hotel Vesterbro for 2 nights.

Day 5: Copenhagen
Today maybe embark on a historic tour that will take you through the ages of Copenhagen and it’s surrounding area, visit the magnificent Kronborg castle in Elsinore, famous from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, the fascinating Fredericksborg castle and then on to the Viking town of Roskilde where you can visit the cathedral or Viking ship museum before heading back to Copenhagen.

Day 6: Depart Copenhagen

Breakfast and self transfer to Copenhagen airport and flight home.
