Tours

Join Sven Engholm, the 11 time champion of Europe’s longest husky race and his eager huskies for a 4 day long winter break. Enjoy an all action adventure in the unspoilt nature of Norwegian Lapland.

Engholm’s Husky Lodge is located in the heart of Norwegian Lapland next to the Karasjohka river. Sven has built the log cabins himself and they ooze charm and cosiness. During your stay at Husky Lodge you do two day-trips. One day is left for leisure when you can relax or maybe try one of the optional activities. The tour includes full board so you are sure to treat your taste buds with Norwegian delicacies!

This tour is suitable for first-timers as well as more experienced husky mushers. Most participants are rather adventurous people who relish the chance to learn new skills and like to live life to the fullest. Neither age nor gender is a barrier - all have equal qualifications for handling the dogsleds. The guides will match the number of huskies in your team with your strength. You don’t have to be exceptionally fit or strong to be able to drive your own sledge. If you for some reason do not want to drive your own dog-team, you can ride comfortably wrapped in reindeer skin in the guide's sled.

There’s no better way of seeing the unspoilt nature of Finnmark than behind a husky sledge!

ITINERARY

Day 1
Fly to Lakselv airport via Oslo and Tromso. Transfer to Engholm’s Husky Lodge which will take about 1 hour. Dinner is served at the lodge while you hear a short briefing of the tour.

Day 2

The morning is spent organizing the teams of huskies and learning the basics of caring for your team and driving the sleds. After an introduction you will have your "own" team of 4-6 dogs. We will drive in varied terrain and stop for a lunch break around an open fire. You are accompanied by a professional guide who will share his/her knowledge and admiration of nature and outdoor life with you. The long sled-tour starts directly from the lodge over a hilly stretch, lakes and marshes.

Day 3

We spend two nights at the wilderness cabin, which enables us to travel light when we explorer the area. We stop for a lunch on the tour. fire. The area is winter pasture for reindeers. We may meet the native reindeer herders - the Sámi - in their daily life on their winter pastures.

Day 4

A long stretch back to Engholm Husky lodge through a variety of beautiful landscape. If we are lucky, we may see moose, as it usually stays in the valley during wintertime. Dinner is waiting for us at Engholm Husky Lodge. We have a cosy wood heated sauna and outdoor hot tub ready on request for those tempted!

Day 5

The programme end and check out. We recommend adding an extra night or 2 to stay as a lodge guest at the camp. You are welcome to join in the daily life on the farm. There is always a lot happening on the farm all year round. Sled dogs are in training and puppies are learning to socialize. Many interesting books can be read in the "Dogmusher library" or you can enjoy sauna or outdoor hut tub. You can also book optional excursions.

Transfer back to Lakselv airport and flights home via Tromso and Oslo.

The tour can be extended either at Engholm’s Husky Lodge, Tromso or Oslo. We also have husky sledding tour to Sorrisniva Igloo hotel available. Please contact us for prices and ideas.
