Enjoy the thrills of exciting winter activities in Finnish Lapland!

Ever wanted to see and experience what Lapland is all about? This break will give you a good 'taste' of some of the best things Lapland has to offer: serene nature and exciting winter activities not forgetting a stay in a luxurious log cabin!

During the days you will learn how to drive a snowmobile, drive a husky team and reindeer sleigh while travelling through the snowy landscape. Taking part to safaris doesn't require any previous experience as they are tailored according to participants' skills. Children can also take part to safaris while travelling in a sleigh. In the evenings you can warm up by crackling open fire place in your own log cabin. The log cabins in Kakslauttanen are made of rare dead standing pines which are typical in Lapland. Each log cabin has its own sauna so you can warm up after a day out in the snow!

PRICES & DATES

Price is based on 2 adults sharing a small log cabin and including return economy class flights from London Heathrow/Manchester to Ivalo via Helsinki, all airport taxes, return airport transfers from the airport to the hotel, 3 nights in a small log cabin, 1 night in a glass igloo, breakfasts and dinners daily, 4 hour reindeer safari inc. lunch, 4 hour snowmobile safari inc. lunch and 4 hour husky safari inc. lunch. All safaris include thermal clothing, equipment, transfers and guiding.

Upgrades to larger log cabins, overnights in snow or glass igloos on request. Please contact us for child and additional adult prices.

Departures every day from London Heathrow and Manchester 1 December 2012-14 April 2013. Also departures over Christmas and New Year.

 

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival
Fly with Finnair from London Heathrow or Manchester to Ivalo via Helsinki, transfer to Kakslauttanen Hotel and Igloo village. Check in to your log cabin for 4 nights. Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2: Reindeer safari

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today you will learn how to drive a reindeer sleigh. Reindeer safari will ease away all your stress as you peacefully travel through the forest pulled by your very own reindeer. You are picked up by car from the hotel and driven to the reindeer farm where all necessary equipment will be provided. This safari requires no skills and the reindeer will do all the work for you as you comfortably relax in your own sleigh. This safari gives you a wonderful opportunity to learn all about the Sami people, the indigenous population of Lapland, their traditions and way of life. Picnic lunch is served en-route.

Day 3: Snowmobile safari

The snowmobile safari takes you to the small ski village of Saariselkä situated some 10 kms away. Private transfer by car from the hotel to the safari office, where you will receive full equipment including thermal suit, boots, socks, gloves, balaclava and helmet. An all-important lesson follows. When everybody is ready the safari trail begins with a drive up to the beautiful Kaunispää fell, 436m above sea level, and from here you will have the most stunning views over the surrounding area. The trail then continues through the beautifully mystical forest. Wilderness picnic lunch cooked on an open fire is served en-route. Two persons share one snowmobile and take turns in driving or you can request one for sole occupancy at a supplementary

Day 4: Husky safari & Igloo night

The husky farm is situated just across the road from the hotel and here some 250 eager huskies await your arrival to take you on an unforgettable and exhilarating journey through breathtaking scenery. Before the husky safari, you will be provided with the necessary outer thermal suit, gloves and hat on arrival and thereafter you will be shown to your very own team of six husky dogs. You will be given a lesson on how to drive the sledge and also how to observe all the important hand signals, as given by your leader. Each team consists of six dogs, you the driver, and your passenger who is comfortably seated in the wooden sledge. The driver and the passenger can change places at any time during the safari. Wilderness picnic lunch is included.

Tonight you will sleep in a glass igloo. When sleeping in the Glass Igloo you will be able to marvel the amazing northern lights and the millions of stars in the sky. The experience is also unforgettable when there is a snowstorm. The Glass Igloos have been built from a very special thermo glass and because of this, the temperature inside the Igloo is always a normal room temperature. It also prevents the glass from not getting frosted, hence keeping the view clear even when the temperature drops under -30 C. To increase the comfort of the customer, the Igloos have a toilet and luxury beds. Every morning there is also a sauna and a possibility to swim in an ice hole nearby.

Day 5: Departure
Check out after breakfast and transfer back to Ivalo airport and flights back home.

Hotel Kakslauttanen

Surrounded by stunning and exotic Lappish scenery, Kakslauttanen offers private first class log cabins. Each cabin has its own fireplace, kitchenette, private facilities and sauna and is scattered sufficiently apart from each other. The cabins are made of rare dead standing pine, typical to Lapland. Choose between small log cabin, which sleeps up to 4 people in twin bedroom and 2 bunk beds or large log cabin sleeping up to 5 people in 2 separate bedrooms (twin and bunk beds) and 1 extra bed in living room. Meals are served in the main building in fully licensed restaurant. The famous Igloo village has Ice Gallery with an ice chapel decorated with ice sculptures and bar made of ice, perfect for snowy weddings! The village also has snow igloos and unique glass igloos built of heated thermal glass. Hotel Kakslauttanen also features luxurious Queen suite log cabin which comes with a private outdoor hot tub, luxurious bathroom and four poster bed.
