In her hit programme Joanna Lumley first saw the northern lights in the Lofoten Islands and National Geographic rated them in the top 3 of ‘most appealing islands in the world’. This special trip focuses on the northern lights, culture, history and nature of this stunning archipelago.
A specially chartered, direct flight, leaves Gatwick on 23 Feb 2012 and takes you to Evenes - Gateway to Lofoten, where the group will be met and escorted for the following 5 days. You’ll visit exhibition and museums that are normally closed at this time of year, learn about culture at the Viking Museum Lofotr, experience a Chieftain banquet, participate in northern light lectures and photo workshops at the Polar Light Centre and visit the Northern Lights Base Camp - one of the best places to spot the Northern Lights.

Price includes return charter flight from London Gatwick to Evenes in Norway, all transfers and tours as described, 4 nights accommodation (inc. breakfast) at the Henningsvaer Bryggehotell. Lunches/dinners included as specificed.

Prices are per person based on two people sharing a twin/double room. This tour is recommended for children over 10. Please call for child prices.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Thursday 23 Feb
Fly direct on a charter from London LGW to Evenes - Gateway to Lofoten in Northern Norway where you are met and will be transfered to Henningsvaer Bryggehotell. Along the way you’ll have a guided tour through the majestic mountains and magnificent countryside.
Later you will enjoy a Viking Feast in a ’Lavvo’ (big tent used by Vikings and the Sami people) at Hov and the Northern Lights Base Camp. This is followed by storytelling around an open fire regarding the Northern Lights and the Vikings. Finally you will participate in a short course in taking photos of the Northern Lights followed by a photo safari on ancient Viking ground. Return to the hotel at 23:00.
Day 2: Friday 24 Feb
After breakfast you will take a guided tour of Henningsvaer. You will visit local craftsmen, shops and galleries. Make your own arctic candlelight or blow your own Northern Lights glass. The tour includes a multimedia show. Lunch and dinner are served at Henninsvaer Bryggehotell. In the evening you will visit the Polar Light Centre in Lauvik and have a lecture/presentation about the Northern Lights with colourful pictures and animations.
Return to the hotel at 23:00.

Day 3: Saturday 24 Feb
After breakfast you will take a guided tour through Lofoten where you will end up at Å - the place where Joanna Lumley first saw the Northern Lights. You will visit different attractions, small fishing villages and experience the dramatic and picturesque nature of what National Geographic refers to as amongst the most beautiful destination in the world. After lunch in the fishing village you will visit the Viking Museum Lofotr. Following a fascinating guided tour and a chance to walk through this reconstructed longhouse there will be a Chieftains Banquet inside the Viking House.
Day 4: Sunday 25 Feb
Today you will experience an (outdoor) Arctic beach barbeque at the beautiful beach at Hov followed by a Lofoten beach and wildlife excursion. Dinner is at the Northern Lights Base Camp.

♦Go horseback riding on Icelandic horses under the Arctic sky (2hrs)
♦Northern Lights hunting with snow shoes (3hrs)
Day 5: Monday 26 Feb
Your final day is at your leisure - enjoy your own photo safari or simply relax at the hotel, before your transfer back to the airport and your flight home.

♦Lunch is taken at the hotel after which you will be transferred back to Evenes airport for your flight home

Stay in a Lavvo ten at the Northern Lights Base Camp at Hov under the open arctic sky. This will increase your chances to see the northern lights even more. Hov is one of the best places to observe this natural phenomenen because of its north facing aspect and almost no light pollution. Each Lavvo has a warm double bed, oillamps, fireplace and reindeer skin on the floor.
