Sweden Tours

From Ikea to the ICEHOTEL, Scandinavia has long led the way in design and innovation and the Treehotel in Swedish Lapland is no exception. This high-design, back-to-nature retreat allows you to immerse yourself in nature while you marvel at some of the hotel world’s most astonishing pieces of architecture.

Set just outside the small village of Harads, 60 km south of the Arctic Circle, the Treehotel enables guests to slow down, switch off and breathe more deeply. With the help of some visionary architects, owners Britta and Kent Lindvall have created a slice of magic that not only combines childhood fantasy with comfort and sophistication but does so with the lightest of environmental footprints.

The hotel comprises six uniquely themed treehouses created by six separate architects: The Mirrorcube, The Bird’s Nest, The Cabin, The Blue Cone, The UFO & A Room With A View. Each is built high in the pine forest, sleeps either two or four people and offers under-floor heating, a sink & an environmentally friendly toilet. Showers and meals are taken in the nearby guesthouse.

Best of all, it’s open year round, allowing guests to enjoy the Midnight Sun in summer and Northern Lights in winter.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival
Fly from London Heathrow to Lulea with SAS (via Stockholm). Your hosts will meet you at the Lulea airport and welcome you to Lapland. Your adventure begins immediately with a 1.5 hr guided tour through Luleå and along the Luleå river valley to the Treehotel. During the tour you will visit the world heritage Gammelstad Church village which is the best preserved example of a type of town that was once widespread throughout northern Scandinavia. Upon arrival check-in to your chosen cabin. The afternoon/evening is at your leisure giving you time to absorb and breathe in the atmosphere. We can arrange dinner in the guesthouse should you so wish.

Day 2: Treehotel & Harads
Breakfast is taken at your leisure in the adjoining guesthouse after which you can join a walking tour of Harads - transformed in the winter months by the sparkling white landscape. You’ll experience the culture, architecture and history of a typical small northern Swedish village and the walk ends at a local residence where you are invited into the family home. The afternoon and evening is at your leisure, you may wish to simply relax in the Tree Sauna, you may be lucky and be rewarded with a display of the Northern Lights.

Day 3: Optional excursions
After breakfast we’ve left this day free for you to choose. You may wish to pick an optional activity such as snowshoeing in the wilderness, visiting the Sami at Gorigan Lake, or ice fishing on the Lule River.

Day 4: Departure
After breakfast it’s time to check out and join a guided tour for the return journey to Lulea for your return flight home. The tour takes you though some very remote wilderness forest where there is a strong chance to see the local wildlife including reindeer and moose. Then onto Storforsen, one of Europe’s largest rapids and waterfalls, where you will follow the scenic Pite river on the way to Luleå airport for your flight home.
