ITINERARY

Day 1 London - Gothenburg
Fly with Scandinavian Airlines to Gothenburg and transfer to our recommended hotel - the Elite Plaza - a converted 19th Century bank in the heart of the city. Collect your city card from the tourist office so you can benefit from the free public transport, entry into museums and shopping discounts, immediately.

Day 2 - Gothenburg
After breakfast you have the rest of the day to enjoy this vibrant and buzzing city. Take a boat trip along its canals and river, thrills can be had in Liseberg Amusement Park - great for all ages. Wander through the old town, browsing the arts and crafts.

Day 3 - Gothenburg to Styrso
Today you’ll be travelling to the tiny traffic free island of Styrso, just a 30- minute scenic ferry ride from Gothenburg. The island has 1400 inhabitants who predominantly get around on a three-wheeled moped. You can enjoy walks on the rocks at the edge of the sea, or just the charming atmosphere of the Styrso Skaret Guest House, which is where you will stay overnight and enjoy a sumptuous dinner.

Day 4 - Styrso to Kvanum
Fully relaxed after a leisurely breakfast, take one of the frequent ferries back to the mainland and pick up your car-hire for the next section of your journey. You are heading to Bjertorp Slott just 110 km north of Gothenburg, and Sweden’s youngest art-nouveau castle. Also located in the area is the Saab Museum in Trollhattan, and the locks and falls of the Gota Alv, which attracts thousands of visitors a year. You’ll experience one night here, also on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 5 - Kvanum to Ljunskile
Today you’ll return to the sea and stay at the Villa Sjotorp, in an area dotted with old fishing villages and rocky coasts. Bracke, on the outskirts of Uddevalla is worth a visit. Shellbanks formed by deposits of millions of shellfish in layers up to 20m thick provide a perfect environment for flora and fauna. The Villa Sjotorp has just 10 individually decorated rooms and a well deserved reputation for excellent food - which is just as well as you will also experience one night dinner, bed & breakfast here too.

Day 6 - Ljunskile - Gothenburg - London
You still have plenty of time to enjoy the region as it is less than an hour’s drive back to Gothenburg, where you will hand in your car and take your flight home, fully rested and having experienced some of the best scenery and gastronomy the region has to offer.

Hotel, Activity and Local Information

Bjertorp Manor

The manor offers a setting and feeling one might place in a time long since past. This, in combination with first-class hotel rooms, personal service and a fantastic kitchen make Bjertorp the perfect meeting place. The much-recognised kitchen is highly exclusive. The seasons shape the menu, based as it is on local products and game from the area’s producers. An architectonic jewel, the manor was drawn in the most modern Swedish functional style, by the hottest architect of the time, Ferdinand Boberg. The Littorin family owned the manor for a decade. The main floor of the manor houses the bedrooms of the Lord and Lady of the house, tastefully renovated to serve as appreciated wedding suites. The guest rooms relate in their colours to the seasons and are all unique. Everything from romantic dinners for two up to and including banquets for 150 guests can be fitted in the handsome dining rooms. Parts of the manor garden are surrounded by the Vara Bjertorp Golf.

Elite Plaza, Gothenburg

The five star hotel is a palatial building from 1889 where all the original features have been preserved, from the beautiful stucco ceilings to the English mosaic floors. Modern art hangs on the walls, and classical styles blend tastefully with more modern styles throughout the building; a unique environment with the ambition to give our guests the highest level of satisfaction. We are situated on Västra Hamngatan, in the heart of Gothenburg, within walking distance of the Central Station, the Opera House, shopping and restaurants.

Styrso Skaret Guest House

Styrsö Skäret Guest House stands on a traffic-free, picturesque, little island in the middle of the beautiful and unspoiled archipelago of Sweden’s west coast, just half an hour by ferry from Gothenburg. If you are driving, you park your car on the mainland and then simply board one of the ferries that run several times daily to Styrsö. Our guest house provides a snug haven where guests can sooth their souls and enjoy inspiring walks on the rocks at the edge of the sea. The sea view is constantly captivating with its unique beauty, from day to day, season to season. All the guest rooms are uniquely and individually decorated - some are romantic with lace and embroidered trim, others have a maritime theme with period antiques that tell a story of life at sea. Our guest house has thirteen bedrooms and you have the choice of a sea view or a room overlooking garden. All rooms have television, broadband Internet access and en suite shower and WC. Accommodation includes a wonderful buffet breakfast served in our beautiful dining room.

Villa Sjötorp

Staying at Villa Sjötorp is like staying at a friend’s home by the sea, although the food is guaranteed to be much better unless you're friends with Gordon Ramsay! With just ten charming traditional and individually decorated rooms all with private facilities although not TV you really experience the personal service. During summer meals are served in the garden or on the terrace with breathtaking views out to sea. A path leads down to a small beach. At the centre of the garden is a large tree from which hangs a swing that even the most grown up among you will not be able resist sitting on and soaking up the atmosphere. The owner Ellika and her small team have earned a well deserved reputation for their excellent food so you won’t have to wander far for dinner.
