Tours

There are many things to discover in Iceland in winter, provided you have the right transportation. On this tour you’ll be taken by super-truck on an amazing expedition through snow and rivers, over glaciers and mountains and along black sandy beaches. Departing on a Friday, you’ll arrive in time for a relaxing soak in the famous Blue Lagoon, leaving you refreshed and ready for a night out in Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital. The expedition starts the next morning. Highlights include the lava fields and hot springs of the Reykjanes Peninsula, the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall, unesco-listed Thingvellir and the erupting vents of Geysir, after which geysers the world over were named. Between outings, you may even get to stare in awe at the Northern Lights as you soak in the hot tubs of the Hotel Hekla. Finally, spend a final night in Reykjavik before flying home on the Monday.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Friday
Fly from the UK to Keflavik. Transfer from Keflavik airport to Blue Lagoon, for a bathing experience of a life time. Continue to your hotel and overnight in Hotel Loftleidir

Evening is at leisure. Friday nights are filled with excitement, with Icelanders invading the streets of downtown Reykjavik, its trendy restaurants, bars and discos, to relieve the stress after a hard week's work.

Day 2: Saturday
We meet our driver guide and have an expedition briefing; itinerary will be set for the day with the help of GPS. Depart by 4WD Super Trucks for the expedition.

Highlights might include some of the following (dependent on the weather and road conditions): Reykjanes Peninsula, crossed by the Rift, boasting moon like landscapes, indented coastline, lava fields, volcanoes and craters. South Iceland and its black sand beaches, seeing the glaciers and some extraordinary waterfalls. The Thorsmork valley and its glacial lagoon and canyon.

Day ends at Hotel Hekla. 3 course dinner will be served. The rural surroundings of the hotel provide ideal conditions, on a clear night, to observe the Northern Lights, from the hot tubs just beside the hotel.

Day 3: Sunday
Briefing before starting today's expedition.

Today’s highlights include Gullfoss waterfall which is one of the most impressive in Iceland. You’ll continue to the highly active geothermal area of Geyser, and its famous geyser, spouting up to 25 meters high every 5 minutes on average. After geysers we head towards the mountains over Laugarvatn towards Lake Thingvellir and the National park. If time allows, we will enjoy some mountain adventure, crossing rivers and snow fields.

Return to Reykjavik in the afternoon. Overnight at Hotel Loftleidir and evening at leisure.
