By Muonio river In Finnish Lapland, lies this family run hotel and husky farm Harriniva.

Come and enjoy the fascinating beauty of the Lappish nature on three different tours. During the reindeer safari you will visit a reindeer farm, enjoy a sleigh ride and learn all about reindeer herding and the role that reindeers play in the Sami culture. With the snowmobile you will discover the fun of speeding across frozen lakes and forests. During the 2-day dog-sled safari you will overnight in a wilderness cabin and can really experience the silence and beauty of the nature. One day is free for you to choose; perhaps you would like to go skiing, on a snow-shoe tour or just have a day for yourself and let the harmony between man and nature overcome you. The hotel also has Aurora Wellness centre which offers beauty and spa treatments.

PRICES & DATES

Price is based on 2 people sharing a room and travelling in low season (November, early December, early January). Price includes return economy class flights from London Heathrow/Manchester to Kittila via Helsinki, airport transfers, 5 overnights in cosy double rooms with shower/wc in Harriniva Holiday Centre, 1 night in a wilderness hut, full board (from dinner on day 1 until breakfast on day 7), complete equipment for the whole stay (thermo-overalls, socks, mittens, boots, warm hat, sleeping bag), one day reindeer programme, 2-day husky safari (everybody drives own husky team with 4-5 huskies), a qualified guide, 1 snowmobile for 2 persons for the snowmobile tour and cross-country skiing equipment or snow shoes for one day. Please note that a valid driving license is required for driving a snowmobile!

ITINERARY

Day 1: Sunday
Fly with a scheduled airline from London Heathrow or Manchester via Helsinki to Kittila. Transfer to Muonio, Harriniva Holiday Centre where you will get together with the safari group and receive information about the tour. Dinner and overnight stay in Harriniva.

Day 2: Day as a reindeer herder
Visit a reindeer farm where you will learn about the reindeers and the role that the reindeer play in Lapp culture. Warm drinks will be served around an open fire in a typical Lapp tent. The reindeer herders will show you how to catch a reindeer with a Lappish lasso and you get to practise this yourself. After helping the reindeer herders to harness the reindeer you start the safari through the winter wonderland forest. Lunch will be served by open fire during the safari. Return to the hotel where you can relax in the sauna and have dinner.

Day 3: Snowmobile day
Our experienced guide will give you driving and safety instructions for snowmobile and it is time to start your engines! Driving a snowmobile is surprisingly easy also for beginners and soon you will speed through the snow covered forests and over the frozen lakes. Lunch by an open fire in the wilderness. Duration of the excursion approx. 5 hours, distance driven 60-80 km. Sauna, dinner and overnight in Harriniva.

Day 4: Day at leisure
This day is free for your own activities. You can go cross-country skiing, down hill skiing, go on a snowshoe tour or just relax. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel.

Day 5: Overnight husky safari
After breakfast you pack your equipment for the 2-day tour and get acquainted with the huskies! You will visit the Harriniva Arctic Sleddog Centre with nearly 400 huskies and hear of the life of these arctic dogs. The husky guide will teach you how to handle the sled and you will meet your team of 4-5 dogs that accompany you for the 2 day safari. Lunch by an open fire en route. Driving distance is about 25 km to a wilderness hut where you will have sauna, dinner and stay overnight in shared facilities.

Day 6: Husky safari and return to hotel
Today you will cover a distance of around 30 km with the dogs. Lunch will be served by a campfire en route. In the afternoon you will return to Harriniva. After having a relaxing sauna bath you will have a farewell dinner with Lapp specialties. Overnight stay in Harriniva.

Day 7: Saturday
Breakfast and transfer to Kittila airport. Fly home via Helsinki.

Harriniva Hotel

Harriniva Wilderness Hotel is a cosy, back to nature, small hotel located in western Lapland close to the Swedish border by Muonio River. The hotel is beautifully decorated and built entirely of wood and stone to a high standard. All guest rooms have private facilities and are non-smoking and do not have TV's. The idea is that you leave 'normal' worries behind, relax and enjoy nature during your stay here. Harriniva has several wilderness cabins across Western Lapland, which are used for overnight safaris. The hotel also has igloos and Aurora Wellness centre which offers beauty and spa treatments, saunas and outdoor jacuzzis. Harriniva restaurant offers local delicacies as well as international dishes.
