Couples from all across the world come to get married at Sweden’s celebrated Ice Hotel. Every year a new hotel is built from blocks of ice cut from the Torne River, just to melt away again in the warmth of spring. Perhaps it’s the transience of the building that makes the experience so special. When no architectural memento exists, the memories from the day become all the more cherished. One thing’s for sure, the sheer beauty of the church will leave no one untouched.
You can choose to marry in the Ice Church (available 26 Dec until the end of Apr) or have a civil ceremony or blessing in the icehotel itself, where there’s room for larger wedding parties. A special wedding dinner is laid on at the Ice Restaurant before you retire for the night to an Art Suite made of ice. The following days can be spent on a snowmobile safari in search of the Northern Lights, driving huskies or reindeer, creating your own ice sculptures or on all manner of other optional excursions (with a supplement).
Each year the unique building is rebuilt, and no two Ice Hotels are the same. Come May, the spring sunshine has done its work and the Ice Hotel has returned to the river Torne.
