Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK/Vancouver

Depart the UK on a daytime flight to Vancouver – widely regarded as Canada's best cities for food and culture. You'll be situated centrally, providing easy access to the city's lively restaurant and bar scene.

Stay: Hotel Listel (Standard)/Hotel Metropolitan (Superior)

  • Day 2 » Vancouver/Whistler

Today is best spent exploring Vancouver's many delights. Be sure to try the freshly-caught seafood, walk the botanical gardens and swing by the gorgeous harbourfront. There are also a number of world-class art galleries. Perhaps opt for a whale watching excursion, or head to Vancouver Island to experience the wilderness. Afterwards, you'll pick up your hire car and head towards Whistler via the Sea-to-Sky Highway. It's a sublime route that takes you on coastal roads, through dense forests and up towards towering mountain peaks. Along the way, be sure to stop at Shannon Falls, a waterfall over 480 metres high. Upon arrival, check into your hotel before exploring the town of Whistler. It's an alpine retreat by the Blackcomb Mountain, equally beautiful in the summer months and during the winter when it becomes a skiing hub.

Stay: Aava Whistler (Standard) Hilton Whistler (Superior)

  • Day 3 » Whistler

Set out into Whistler's surrounds, exploring the many rivers and emerald lakes. To help you get the most out of this region, we've included a journey on the Peak 2 Peak gondola – the longest and highest cable car in the world. At 2.7 miles long and 1,427 feet above the valley, it's an epic experience with unsurpassed views. At the top, panoramic views of the (extinct!) volcanoes, snow-dusted crags and ancient glaciers are your reward.

Stay: Aava Whistler (Standard) Hilton Whistler (Superior)

  • Day 4 » Sun Peaks

Today is the day you'll drop the clutch and drive the incredible Duffy Lake Road. Highlights include the sprawling views of Joffre Glacier and a stop at Lillooet, an old frontier town that used to be a key location during the gold rush era. Onwards, you'll drive towards Cache Lake, a picturesque treat that's fringed by thick forests. We've included access to Hat Creek Ranch, a time warp to the 1860s that still hosts original weatherboard buildings, wagon-trail dirt tracks and period buildings. Relive the gold rush era before heading on to Sun Peaks, an idyllic mountain resort that is the perfect base from which to hike the many scenic routes in the surrounding area.

Stay: Nancy Green’s Cahilty Lodge (Standard) Sun Peaks Resort – Sun Peaks Grand Hotel (Superior)

  • Day 5 » Jasper

Head for the famed Rocky Mountains, following the Thompson River that wends its way through plains and up towards the snow-covered Monashee Mountain range. The air is crisp and the views spectacular. We recommend breaking up your journey by stopping off at Albreda Icefields, home to monumental glaciers, and Pyramid Falls – a 90-metre high cascading waterfall. Before long you'll pass Mt. Robson, the tallest peak in Canada's Rocky Mountain range, standing at an impressive 3,954 metres. Shortly after, you'll arrive at Jasper.

Stay: Selected Jasper hotel (Standard) Sawridge Inn (Superior)

  • Day 6 » Jasper

The day is yours to explore Jasper National Park. There's a huge range of outdoor activities on offer and a rich abundance of wildlife to spot. Coyote, porcupines, moose and beavers are all here. Perhaps hop aboard a ship and cruise Lake Maligne, or take the tram into the mountains, getting up close to the towering peaks. Jasper National Park really does showcase Canada at its most exquisite – beautiful and majestic in equal measure.

Stay: Selected Jasper hotel (Standard) Sawridge Inn (Superior)

  • Day 7 » Banff

Make your way southwards along the famous Icefields Parkway, a superb driving route that showcases the Rockies' majesty with mountains towering either side of the road. Stop off at will at any one of the mighty glaciers or glistening lakes. You'll arrive at the Columbia Icefields, where we've included a journey aboard the Ice Explorer. This behemoth vehicle is adept at handling the challenging terrain, and will take you onto the Athabasca Glacier, leaving you free to walk across this otherwise-inaccessible natural phenomenon. Continue your journey towards the sparkling Lake Louise, before finishing up at Banff. We recommend stopping at Johnston Canyon to stretch your legs – head for either its upper or lower waterfalls.

Stay: Irwin’s Mountain Inn (Standard) Banff Caribou Lodge (Superior)

  • Day 8 » Banff

Banff National Park is a wild-yet-accessible land of elk, bears and wolves. The day is yours to explore the surrounds; we've included a journey on Banff's gondola which will take you high into the sky for a bird's eye view of six mountain ranges. We've also included entry to the Upper Hot Springs – bring your bathing suit! All around here are places to explore – contact one of our consultants for advice based on your preferences, or perhaps consider a cruise on Lake Minnewanka or wandering down to the nearby underground cathedrals.

Stay: Irwin’s Mountain Inn (Standard) Banff Caribou Lodge (Superior)

  • Day 9 » Depart for UK

As your holiday nears its end, journey east along the Trans-Canada Highway for one final scenic drive – mountains will begin to give way to rolling hills and the plains beneath. Depending on your flight time and what time you set out, you could perhaps visit Calgary and get a feel for its Old West vibe. We recommend visiting a honky-tonk bar, walking down Stephen Avenue and stopping for a bite to eat at one of those restaurants where both the atmosphere and portions are quintessentially North American.

  • Day 10 » Arrive UK

After your overnight flight, continue your journey home.
