This magical getaway to Lapland is perhaps the ultimate in New Year’s fun. Of course, fizz and fireworks will mark the occasion (hopefully joined by a display of the Northern Lights) but the activities don’t end there. The included excursions range from dogsledding and snowmobile safaris to reindeer sleigh rides and snowshoe campfire trips. What’s more, alongside your hearty full-board dining, you’ll even be treated to a special lunch in an ice restaurant. In all, this is a perfect trip for both couples and families, all knitted together by included transfers.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » 30 Dec: Depart UK

Flying into Kittilä in the depths of Finnish Lapland, you’ll be met at the airport and brought through the wintry forest to settle into your pine-clad accommodation. After picking up your complimentary cold-weather clothing, you’ll then be treated to the first of your full-board meals with a buffet dinner, spanning from regional delicacies to international classics. You’ll also be able to warm up with unlimited hot drinks and complimentary use of that most Finnish of traditions – the sauna. Consider upgrading for your very own private version, or even a riverside log cabin.

    Stay: Hotel Harriniva, Muonio

    Meals: Dinner

  • Day 2 » New Year's Eve: Reindeer sleigh ride, dogsledding & fireworks

To start your truly magical New Year’s Eve, an included transfer will bring you to a local reindeer farm. Here, you’ll have the chance to meet and feed these adorable creatures before learning how to throw a lasso and heading out on an evocative sleigh ride through the snow. You’ll then be brought on to a spectacular ice village for lunch, taken among frozen statues and beautiful carvings. The afternoon is then given over to meeting the resident huskies, where, under expert tuition, you’ll learn to mush a sled through the forest. It all culminates with a festive dinner, before you toast in the new year with fireworks and complimentary fizz.

  • Day 3 » New Year’s Day: Snowmobiling & Northern Lights campfire

After breakfast, you’ll kick things up a gear with a snowmobile safari. Travelling in pairs, you’ll swap halfway, giving both the chance to enjoy the snow-laden views. The afternoon is then left at your leisure, perhaps to enjoy a scenic walk into next-door Sweden or a private hot-tub and sauna session down by the river. Then, after dinner, you’ll strap on snowshoes for a guided walk into the forest. Here, in a secluded grove, you’ll sit round a campfire, sipping hot drinks while gazing skywards for the Northern Lights.
