“Often it’s the hardest places to reach that are the most rewarding... but the splendid isolation of this remote mountain farm is well worth all the effort.” That’s what ex-Top Gear thrill-seeker Richard Hammond had to say about this retreat, tucked away in the sublime Norwegian Arctic. Enjoy a stay at this converted farm, as you experience thrills far north of Arctic Lapland.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel

Fly to Alta, via Oslo, and transfer to the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. A stay in your own private igloo (average temperature -4 to -7 degrees) is a wonderful way to begin your adventure. In the evening, we recommend booking a table at the excellent Restaurant Laksestua where smoked reindeer and Arctic char are among the specialities.

Stay: Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel, Alta, Norway

  • Day 2 » Ongajok Mountain Lodge

After a warming sauna and breakfast, transfer to Ongajok Mountain Lodge. Settle in before sitting down to a hearty menu featuring local game such as elk, hare and grouse, as well as freshly-caught ocean fish. Meals at Ongajok are a social affair, eaten together with fellow guests.

    Meals: Dinner included

    Stay: Ongajoksetra, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Days 3-4 » Ongajok Mountain Lodge

You’ll have two full days at the farm in which to make the most of the surrounding environment and the unusual activities on offer. These are many and varied, and you can tailor each day to suit your every wish. One particular highlight is the chance to visit some local Sami herders and learn about their traditional way of life and how they rely on their reindeer to survive in the frozen north. Of course, no trip to these latitudes would be complete without a search for nature’s celestial light show, and chances of catching the aurora are high due to Ongajok’s remoteness. And, to help you make the most of your time, we've included a thrilling snowmobile safari and a snowshoe hike through the snow-laden forest.

    Stay: Ongajoksetra, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 5 » Ongajok Mountain Lodge

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flights.

    Meals: Breakfast included
