Centrally located in the heart of Oslo's shopping district, the charming Saga Hotel offers a boutique base from which to explore an increasingly vibrant city. The beautiful building was built in the 1890s and retains an elegance from that era, but is as contemporary as they come in terms of style and comfort.

Located on a tree lined street in a quiet area behind the Royal Palace and close to Oslo's shopping district, the charming Saga Hotel offers a boutique base from which to explore an increasingly vibrant city. The beautiful building was built in the 1890s and retains an elegance from that era, but is as contemporary as they come in terms of style and comfort.

Capturing the local zeitgeist, the hotel reflects an outward-looking, inclusive and modern philosophy, with both accommodation and cuisine borrowing global influences and combining them with the best of Norway. With a wealth of museums, galleries, bars and outdoor entertainments just waiting on the doorstep, the Saga Hotel is definitely the best spot in the capital.

Eat

The Restaurant St. Raw is one of Oslo's finest, offering a mouthwatering menu inspired by Japanese cuisine. In particular, the sushi here is outstanding, this may well be the best spot in Norway to sample the bounty of the North Atlantic, raw as nature intended it. For other meals, head to the Lobby Bar, which serves light meals, drinks and snacks, while the Breakfast Room provides a plentiful buffet to start the day.

Sleep

The 47 rooms here balance a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic of monochromatic sobriety and a gilded display of lavish opulence with great success, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Some of the single rooms have balconies, but all accommodation at the Saga is exceptional chic and comfortable, with the practicality of writing desks and armchairs softened with plush carpets and gilded interiors. The bathrooms in contrast, are decidedly minimalist but stylish all the same.

Do

The buzzy shopping street of Bogstadveien, the capital's main commercial thoroughfare and home to many exclusive brands, is just a short stroll away from the Saga. This area is also lined with plenty of busy cafés and buzzy bars, so make sure you pop by for a pit stop as you shop: one great place near the hotel is the Holtegata, the capital's smallest microbrewery. During winter, the forested terrain around Oslo makes for great cross-country skiing, and suburban Holmenkollbakken is an exciting place to go for a ski jump.
