In the far north of Manitoba, on the edge of Hudson Bay, sits the small town of Churchill, the so-called Polar Bear Capital of the World. These legendary carnivores converge on Churchill in the autumn as they migrate north for the polar winter, gathering by the shore as they wait for the sea to freeze over. Travel with experienced guides to catch a sighting of the bears while also exploring some of Canada's wildest landscapes.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Winnipeg

Arrive in the Manitoban capital city of Winnipeg and transfer to your hotel near the airport, where you’ll meet your fellow travel companions.

Stay: Four Points by Sheraton, Winnipeg

  • Day 2 » Churchill

Fly north to Churchill and check into your hotel before embarking on a guided tour of the town, which includes a visit to the infamous Polar Bear ‘jail.' This halfway house detains bears that stray too close to human habitations, before airlifting them to safety far out in the surrounding tundra. The tour also takes in the Eskimo, or Itsanitaq, Museum, where you’ll learn about the indigenous peoples of the Arctic.

Stay: Tundra Inn, Churchill (or similar)

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Churchill

Try a ride in a Tundra Buggy – a bespoke all-terrain vehicle built high off the ground to allow safe viewing of polar bears – and over the next two days enjoy a series of ice and snow safaris. You’ll see polar bears and an array of smaller Arctic animals posing under the big skies of the Manitoban coast; look out for caribou, Arctic fox and eagles. Each evening the buggy will head out of town once again, offering you the chance to view the Northern Lights.

Stay: Tundra Inn, Churchill (or similar)

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Churchill and Winnipeg

Leave your buggy and hop on a far older mode of transport – a dogsled. Mush your way into the wild once more with a local dogsledding expert for a truly authentic experience on the ice. Evening flight to Winnipeg and dinner at the hotel.

    Stay: Four Points by Sheraton

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 5 » Winnipeg

After breakfast, head to the airport to board your overnight return flight to the UK.
