Venture to the isolated Faroe Islands, between Britain's northern shore and Iceland. Embark on a four-day exploration from the picture-book town of Torshavn, including a trip to the famous Vestmanna cliffs,. This short break is bursting with immersion in Faroe culture.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Vagar and Tórshavn

Start your holiday flying in to Vagar airport in the Faroe Islands. You'll pick up your rental car and drive to Tórshavn to check in to the Hotel Hafnia, ideally located within a few minutes of the harbour and the Tórshavn Cathedral, the second oldest received church of the Faroe Islands. The hotel has a restaurant and cosy brasserie onsite, or you could head into town for dinner at one of the hip local hotspots. If you wish to upgrade your stay, the four star Hotel Føroyar sits prettily on a hillside with beautiful views of Tórshavn and the islands, and houses the two-Michelin-star rated restaurant KOKS.

Stay: Hotel Hafnia, Torshavn (Standard) or Hotel Føroyar (Superior)

  • Day 2 » Boat Tour to Vestemanna Sea Cliffs

After breakfast today you'll be free to stroll around the old town, taking in picturesque 14th-century houses complete with quaint grass-covered roofs. The port area is equally pretty; watch the boats bob up and down against a backdrop of brightly coloured buildings. Dependent on travel dates, you'll then take an included boat tour to Vestemanna Sea Cliffs, the most popular tourist attraction in the Faroe Islands. Here, you'll sail into grottos, through narrow sounds, and close to the almost 700 feet high vertical cliffs, where birds nest each summer. Alternative excursions can be booked dependent on the season. In the evening, we recommend dining at one of the many restaurants dotted around the harbour (pre-booking recommended) such as Aarstova, The Tarv, Barbara, Raest or Fiskastykkid.

Stay: Hotel Hafnia, Torshavn (Standard) or Hotel Føroyar (Superior)

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

  • Day 3 » Tórshavn

Today you can spend the day at leisure, and we recommend a day trip to the southern island of Sandoy. Here, chocolate-box villages are nestled between windswept beaches and pristine lakes, without the crowds. Take a short walk across the sand dunes or explore Sanur, the largest village on the island, complete with local art gallery and charming cafe, before you cruise back to Tórshavn. Alternatively, hire a car for the day and head off the beaten track, returning to the warmth of your hotel for a final dinner.

Stay: Hotel Hafnia, Torshavn (Standard) or Hotel Føroyar (Superior)

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 4 » Departure

Enjoy a delicious breakfast today before a little free time in Torshavn or further afield. Drop off your rental car at the airport and check in for your flight home.
