Experience the wilderness chic of adults-only Wilderness Hotel Nangu with our five-day winter break. Flying in to northern Lapland, you’ll arrive on the icebound shores of Lake Inari, just a short hop from Finland’s Russian border, for five days of wonderful Lappish food, warm Finnish hospitality and thrilling Arctic adventure. Expect everything from snowmobiling and snowshoeing trips to husky sledding and an evening spent at a remote Northern Lights camp, all included in the price.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK/Wilderness Hotel Nangu

Fly to Ivalo, where you’ll be met for the 30-minute transfer to Wilderness Hotel Nangu on the southern shores of Lake Inari. Then, once you’ve settled into your stylish, log-cabin surrounds, you’ll head to the restaurant for the first of your included dinners. The menu changes daily, so you might be treated to anything from a hearty stew to locally caught salmon.

  • Day 2 » Snowmobiling & aurora camp

Tuck into a delicious buffet breakfast, fuel for today’s snowmobile adventure. After some expert instruction, you’ll drive out into the wilderness, pausing for lunch and hot drinks by an open fire. Then, after dinner back at base, it’s time to head out again, this time to a remote aurora camp where more fireside refreshments will keep you warm as you gaze upwards to the star-filled sky and, with luck, the Northern Lights.

  • Day 3 » Husky sledding & Reindeer Day

A highlight of any trip to Finnish Lapland, today sees you mushing a team of huskies. First transfer to the farm, where you’ll be shown how to mush your eager team, before setting off along frozen trails, the yaps of the huskies replaced by the silence of the snow-laden forest. During the day you will also visit a reindeer farm. Here the Reindeer herders give you an insight to their culture and life. Lunch will be served during the day.

  • Day 4 » Snowshoeing

Today’s activity is at an altogether slower pace, allowing a true appreciation of the beauty of Nangu’s wilderness surroundings. Strapping on a pair of snowshoes, you’ll head out on foot, your guide leading you through the wintry wonderland while regaling you with tales of the Arctic and sharing fascinating insights about the local nature. You’ll even stop along the way for lunch, cooked on a campfire. Head back to base in the afternoon for one last dinner and a final chance to spot the aurora.
