This is your chance to explore southern Finland in style, combining a stay in the heart of eclectic Helsinki with the chance to chill out on the south coast. A perfect snapshot of the Finnish summer (or autumn), you’ll be treated to stays at two standout hotels, beginning with the capital delights of the boutique Lilla Roberts – a boutique gem in the heart of Helsinki’s design district – before heading to the all-new Baro for the perfect blend of nature and Nordic design. Surrounded by forest and a stone’s throw from the sea, the Baro’s treehouse-style accommodation – all stripped wood and floor-to-ceiling glass – provide a stylish backdrop to the likes of hiking, kayaking, yoga and seasonal dining.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK to Helsinki

Your holiday begins with a flight to the Finnish capital where, on arrival, you’ll make your way to your hotel – a boutique, art-deco-style bolt hole located in Helsinki’s design district. We recommend taking the train which, at five Euros per person, offers easiest and most cost-effective way of reaching the city centre. Once you’ve checked in, take the chance to relax and perhaps get to know your new surroundings with a leisurely stroll. You’ll also find plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance.

    Stay: Lilla Roberts, Helsinki

  • Day 2 » Helsinki

Spend today exploring Helsinki at your own pace, taking in the sights of the historic, Empire-era centre, from Senate Square and the Old Market Hall to the 19th-century Helsinki Cathedral – an Evangelical Lutheran church built as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland. Further highlights can be found at the Suomenlinna, an 18th-century sea fortress, and at the Artist Community by Lake Tuusula – a home to some of Finland’s most famous early 20th-century writers and artists. Otherwise, take the chance to sample local gin at the Helsinki Distillery Company, indulge with a sauna or even take a day trip to Tallin, across the sea in Estonia.

    Stay: Lilla Roberts, Helsinki

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 3 » The Baro

After a leisurely morning it’s time to leave Helsinki behind today, collecting your hire car for the short drive to The Baro, located on the coast just over an hour from the capital. Your route includes a short ferry crossing which, with regular departures, doesn’t need to be booked in advance. Your accommodation, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, offers glorious forest views, with sea views available for an additional cost. There’s also an excellent restaurant on site, serving delicious lunches and included four-course dinners based on local, seasonal ingredient and, of course, a sauna and Jacuzzi – a private sauna session is also included.

    Stay: The Baro

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Days 4-5 » The Baro

You’ll have two full days to relax and enjoy your hotel, and the many delights of Finland’s south coast, such as nearby Ingå, a vibrant seaside community with a rich history stretching all the way back to the Vikings. Around the region, you’ll also find farm shops, local markets and 19th-century stone barns, while the likes of hiking and kayaking will get you out into nature. On day four, we’ve included a picnic basket for you to enjoy either locally or on your day trip.

Around the wider region, further options include Fiskars Village – an oasis of art and design – and Turku, Finland’s oldest city. While the city, and its archipelago surrounds, are under two hours’ drive away, we recommend adding an extra day or two to explore the region properly. Our specialists can recommend accommodation and an itinerary.

    Stay: The Baro

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 6 » Depart for UK

Your holiday comes to an end today with a drive back to Helsinki Airport in time for your flight home.

    Meals: Breakfast
