Set in a beautiful countryside on the shores of Lake Saimaa, Lomamokkila is a working farm that has been welcoming guests for four generations. TripAdvisor's number one choice for B&B accommodation in the Savonlinna region, it is the perfect stop on any route around Lake Saimaa.

Eat

Accommodation is on bed and breakfast basis and due to the working farm nature of Lomamokkila, breakfasts are filled with fresh produce. An onsite restaurant is open from June until August, where home-reared beef and fish features on the menu. From smoked, marinated, cured, pickled and poached salmon served with lemon juice and lashes of dill to pike, perch and Baltic herring, the traditional Finnish cuisine served leans heavily toward fish. A farm shop sells a range of fresh produce for outdoor BBQ's, picnics and the cottage kitchens.

Sleep

A range of accommodation options are available at Lomamokkila, from hotel rooms and lakeside cottages to guesthouses and garden houses. Our favorites are the timber-built lakeside cottages which sleep up to eight people. With a living area, kitchen, private sauna, veranda, outhouse and BBQ and beach access, these intimate retreats promise privacy. Guesthouses offer twin and double rooms with en suite facilities and shared kitchens, whilst hotel rooms, garden houses and storage houses share bathroom and kitchen facilities.

Do

Activities range throughout seasons; in summer, hike through the forests and along the shores of the lake, cycle or play volleyball, tennis and badminton. For thrill seekers, winter weather provides ample opportunities to snowshoe or ski on the several cross-country trails surrounding the farm. If you are looking to relax, look no further than the smoke sauna and traditional sauna located on site.
