Embrace the best of Iceland on this four-day romantic mini-break

» 4 day tailor-made holiday

» Price from: £980 pp incl. flights

Few places are as exciting as Iceland, an effervescent expanse of mid-Atlantic rock that must be a geography teacher’s idea of heaven, but is equally compelling for wild adventure. This land of ice and fire is a medley of spectacular waterfalls, thermal baths, natural light shows, glorious glaciers and towering mountains, all tied together by the slightly bohemian and very friendly spirit of the locals.

This itinerary can also be enjoyed during summer months. If you'd like to know more, just contact our specialists.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Hotel Ranga

Arriving in Keflavík airport, a short drive from Iceland’s capital city, pick up your hire car. But before you even reach the capital, stop off at the Blue Lagoon, a natural thermal spa where the louche cobalt waters provide a stark contrast to the cool winds whistling above the surface. Afterwards, head east along the main coastal highway towards the town of Hella, and the nearby Hotel Ranga.

    Stay: Hotel Rangá, South Iceland

  • Day 2 » Hotel Ranga

The south coast of Iceland offers a spectacularly scenic drive: on one side glacial melt water tumbles in myriad waterfalls over and off the central plateau; on the other the black sand beaches and hexagonal rock formations stud the shoreline. Take in this extraordinary landscape from a helicopter or a jeep or for the best perspective, both. The hotel’s outdoor hot tubs provide the ultimate relaxing viewing point for a chance to glimpse the Northern Lights.

    Meals: Breakfast included

    Stay: Hotel Rangá, South Iceland

  • Day 3 » Reykjavik

Before heading to the capital city, we recommend that you take time to explore Iceland’s ‘Golden Circle’, which comprises the historic national park Thingvellir, home to the first Icelandic parliament and the magnificent Gullfoss, a roaring cascade in the Hvitá river. The nearby geysers, including the now extinct Geysir (from which the English word derives) are spectacular, especially Strokkur, which erupts violently every few minutes. Continue to Reykjavík where you can enjoy the buzz of the nightlife and restaurants. Many of the restaurants are notable. We particularly like the tasting menu at Fiskmarkaðurinn, possibly the best way to experience the impressive variety of seafood Iceland has to offer.

    Meals: Breakfast included

    Stay: Hotel Reykjavík Centrum, Iceland

  • Day 4 » Reykjavík

Explore the capital’s stylish streets in the morning before heading to the airport to drop off your hire car in time for your flight back to the UK.

    Meals: Breakfast included
