This is an unforgettable winter break that culminates, via an iconic Hurtigruten cruise, in Lofoten, one of the world’s most scenic archipelagos. You’ll cruise among isolated polar landscapes and speed through dramatic Arctic wilderness alongside enthusiastic huskies, but it’s nighttime that takes centre stage, shimmering beneath the Northern Lights’ psychedelic ballet.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK to Tromsø

After your flight from the UK to Tromsø, buried among Norway’s northern fjordland, transfer to your hotel that vaunts views of the harbour’s rainbow huts and silvery peaks. You’ve got the rest of the evening at leisure, whether you want to explore the city’s roaring pub scene – we recommend Tromsø’s oldest pub Ølhallen – or take advantage of the hotel’s sauna and steam room that overlooks the city before an included three-course buffet dinner.

Stay: Clarion Collection Hotel With, Tromso

    Meals: Dinner

  • Day 2 » Huskies and Hurtigruten

This morning, explore the spectacular Arctic capital, perhaps hiking the plethora of surrounding snow-laden mountain trails. Come evening, an eager group of huskies await to tow you through the darkness, illuminated by the white canopy surrounds. It’s all punctuated by a backdrop of majestic zeniths, but – luck depending – the Northern Lights’ ethereal kaleidoscope steals the show. Return to a fireside wilderness supper, then it’s time to board the impressive Hurtigruten ship and bunk down in your cosy cabin.

    Stay: Hurtigruten Cabin

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Hurtigruten and Svolvær

The delights of the Hurtigruten await today as you navigate awe-inspiring winter scenes, from Harstad’s unexpected sugar-white beaches to idyllic Stokmarkenes’ imposing heights. Arrive in Svolvær to emblematic Rorbu cottages neighboured by colossal white crests – your introduction to the spectacular Lofoten archipelago. Make like a local with a stay in your own red-painted fishing cabin, all white timber beams and log walls, before enjoying a gourmet three-course dinner featuring the likes of reindeer and signature stockfish.

    Stay: Svinoya Rorbuer, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Days 4-5 » Svolvær

After cosseting nights in your cosy cabin, explore this stunning share of the Lofoten archipelago. Perhaps find epic spots to hunt the aurora with a local nature photographer and get close to majestic sea eagles via a rib boat at spectacular beach-lined inlets. Or, go one further with a sea kayak adventure on the islands’ serene waters. Staying on land affords the likes of snowshoe hikes among the resplendent glisten of icy forests and horse rides along hidden sandy beaches, panoramic ridges and iconic stockfish racks. End each day with dinner in the picturesque town centre or the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. The headline act comes later, as you prepare for magical hunts of the world’s most celestial spectacle. You’ll be guided toward the best locations each evening, hopefully enjoying an unforgettable performance of the aurora’s glittering dance.

    Stay: Svinoya Rorbuer, Norway

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 6 » Svolvær to UK

After breakfast, you’ll self-transfer to Svolvær airport in time for your return flight to the UK.

    Meals: Breakfast
