» 6 day tailor-made holiday

» Price from: £1,240

Sailing across the Baltic, you’ll weave between cragged islets and wild coastlines to arrive at the Åland Islands. Here, you’ll stay right on its clifftop jags, returning from lake walks and trips to sleepy fishing villages to an included spread of afternoon teas, sauna soaks and degustation dining, held at one of Finland’s finest restaurants. Either side, you’ll compare the rich heritage and bleeding-edge modernity of Stockholm and Helsinki – two of Europe’s city greats. Knit it all together with luxury stays, included cruises and private transfers.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Fly to Stockholm

Fly from the UK to Stockholm, Sweden's pretty capital, where you’ll settle in to the 18th-century grandeur of your luxury hotel. Then, before admiring its chandeliers and perhaps imbibing with a drink at the champagne bar or private wine cellar, be sure to take a look around your historic surrounds. The cobbled streets and frescoed townhouses of Gamla Stan – Stockholm’s old town – are just a stroll away.

    Stay: King's Garden Hotel, Stockholm

  • Day 2 » Stockholm to Åland

Today you’ll have some further time to take in the Swedish capital, with its world-famous culinary and arts scene played out to a backdrop of cathedral spires and city palaces. It's a wonderfully walkable city, with plenty of pavement cafes and restaurants to tempt your tastebuds. This evening, you'll board the ferry to Åland, sailing through the winding passageways that knit together archipelagos formed of near-countless islets. Arriving at midnight, you'll head straight to your hotel for a good night's sleep.

    Stay: Havsvidden Resort

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 3 » Åland

After an indulgent breakfast, you’ll have today to explore. While Åland’s strategic history is evidenced across medieval castles, 19th-century fortresses and a superb maritime museum, it’s the great outdoors that impress the most. Perhaps map the archipelago’s wild coastline with boat rides and kayak paddles or plunge into its verdant interior with hikes and bike rides. Then, returning to your hotel, you’ll be treated to an afternoon tea – washed down with a Jacuzzi dip and complimentary sparkling wine. Lastly, end the day with a three-course dinner in your hotel’s restaurant – one of Finland’s finest.

    Stay: Havsvidden Resort

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Åland to Helsinki

After another full day to explore the delights of Åland, you'll return to the hotel for dinner before boarding a midnight ferry bound for Helsinki, sailing across the Baltic Sea and into the Gulf of Finland to arrive in the capital the following morning.

    Stay: Overnight ferry

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 5 » Helsinki

Great rocky crags, each capped and backed with dense greenery signals your morning arrival into Helsinki, where you’ll have a full day to take in its charms. While its UNESCO-listed island fortress, Art Nouveau old town and stern, 19th-century cathedral remember the city’s rich heritage, there’s a certain cutting edge to the Finnish capital. Its world-famous design scene can be felt everywhere from hip boutiques and unique galleries to silent timber chapels and glass churches hewn out of rock. And, this contrast of old and new is invited into your luxury hotel where country-style rooms are matched with Bang & Olufsen TVs.

    Stay: Hotel Haven, Helsinki

  • Day 6 » Depart Helsinki

After breakfast at your hotel, make your way to the airport in time for your flight home.
