Day 1 » Fly to Kuusamo
Your trip begins by flying (via Helsinki) to Kuusamo in northeastern Finland, where a private transfer will be waiting to bring you to Arctic Lumo Resort – less than 10 minutes’ journey from the airport. Hidden away among a landscape of snow-blanketed forests, fells and frozen lakes, it’s a wonderfully secluded base for your winter adventure. You’ll be staying in a stylish, glass-walled aurora cabin with uninterrupted views of the pristine surroundings. Once darkness falls, with a little luck, you’ll be able to watch the Northern Lights swirling across the night sky from the comfort of your bed. For a touch of extra luxury, why not upgrade to an aurora spa cabin with a private outdoor hot tub? Or, if you're looking for a more spacious option, the two-bedroom panoramic suites (which also come with a private hot tub) are an ideal choice.
Later on, head over to the restaurant for your first delicious three-course dinner; expect authentic, skilfully prepared dishes showcasing the finest seasonal ingredients from the surrounding region. The culinary offering here is led by esteemed Finnish chef, Kim Mikkola, who previously worked at Noma in Copenhagen – consistently ranked among the world’s best restaurants – before founding and leading Michelin-starred Inari restaurant in Helsinki. His ethos is heavily inspired by the rhythms of the seasons, bringing ingredients from the nearby lakes and forests – such as wild game, fish, foraged mushrooms, herbs and berries – and transforming them into gastronomic masterpieces on the plate.

Day 2 » Snowmobiling & husky safari
Enjoy a hearty breakfast this morning as you prepare for an action-packed day of winter adventures. First, you’ll set off on an exhilarating snowmobile ride, gliding through the awe-inspiring, snow-blanketed wilderness of North Ostrobothnia in the company of an expert guide. Along the way, you’ll pause for hot drinks and a bite to eat.
Then, in the afternoon, you’ll head to a local husky farm, where you’ll have the chance to meet and interact with these friendly, furry creatures before learning the basics of ‘mushing’ – the art of steering a sled. Shortly afterwards, you’ll experience the thrill of leading your own team of dogs on a husky sled ride through the enchanting, snowy forests. Finally, return to Arctic Lumo Resort for a relaxing soak in your private outdoor hot tub (if you're staying in an aurora spa cabin or a panoramic suite) and another superb dinner at the on-site restaurant. Before heading to bed, be sure to take a look outside to see if the Northern Lights are active; at these northerly latitudes, close to the Arctic Circle, this majestic natural phenomenon can be seen on most clear winter nights.

Day 3 » Ice floating & optional activities
This morning, you’ll enjoy one of the region’s most captivating and unique winter experiences – floating along a semi-frozen river. Equipped with a dry suit to keep you warm and insulated from the icy water, you’ll gently glide down the river, effortlessly passing through a dream-like landscape of snow-frosted trees as the water rushes around you. It’s a wonderfully immersive and invigorating way to connect with the region’s untouched nature.
Back at base in the afternoon, you may wish to make use of complimentary snowshoes, cross-country skis or sleds as you explore the surroundings at leisure, book a private session in the sauna, visit the on-site reindeer farm, or simply relax in your cabin and enjoy your private outdoor hot tub. For a supplement, it’s also possible to arrange a guided fat-biking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing tour, while in the evening, you may wish to join a guided Northern Lights hunt, during which you’ll head out into the wilderness to a prime viewing location with minimal light pollution.

Day 4 » Ruka Coaster & Ruka Ski Resort
Today, a private transfer will bring you to Ruka Ski Resort – one of Finland’s largest and most snow-sure ski resorts, with 41 groomed pistes and 22 lifts centered around the Rukatunturi fell. It’s especially well suited to beginners and intermediate-level skiers, and you’ll have the whole day to enjoy it all at your own pace. To save time queuing on arrival, your equipment and lift passes will be arranged in advance, so you can make the most of your time on the slopes.
As well as skiing, we have included a ride on the Ruka Coaster – the world’s northernmost mountain roller coaster, which offers magnificent views of the surrounding fell landscapes as you whizz along the 767-metre track. It reaches speeds of up to 40 km/hour, while each rider can individually control their cart with a brake lever. Each cart takes up to two adults, and children aged 3-7 must be accompanied by an adult. It’s the perfect way to cap off your trip before returning to Arctic Lumo Resort for one last fabulous three-course dinner.
