This country-spanning tour encapsulates the very best of Norway’s summer landscapes, beginning with a city stay in Bergen, gateway to the spectacular western fjords. You’ll then head north, calling into the Arctic city of Tromso where optional hikes and an included cable car ride will showcase its spellbinding landscapes, before ending your holiday amid the vast glaciers and snow-dusted mountains of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago. Just 650 miles from the North Pole, it's a wilderness home to walruses, seals and polar bears. Alongside a stay in the region’s finest hotel, you’ll join a guided boat tourto the ever-shifting ice of the Nordenskiold Glacier. 

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Bergen

    Fly to Bergen and make your way to your hotel. Located right next to the city’s Bryggen Wharf, and just a short walk from the famous fish market, you’ll be perfectly placed to take in the city’s rich seafaring heritage. Explore it all with an afternoon stroll before heading to the Fløibanen funicular for the scenic ride to the summit of Mt. Fløyen and its stunning citywide views (included). Then, returning to your hotel, you'll have time to relax with a drink at the bar before heading out to explore Bergen’s culinary scene; there’s everything from award-winning fish restaurants to hidden eateries that trace the region’s Viking heritage.

  • Day 2 » Norway in a Nutshell

    Swap city for countryside today with the classic Norway in a Nutshell tour. A spectacular combination of ultra-scenic train rides, bus journeys and cruises, it links dramatic fjords and snow-dusted mountains with villages hidden amid some of Scandinavia's most arresting landscapes. You'll even be treated to a journey on the Flåm Railway – the world's steepest standard gauge line. It's a memorable trip through verdant valleys and past cascading waterfalls, linking Flåm on the shores of Aurlandsfjord with the mountain station at Myrdal. Further highlights include the pretty villages of Gudvangen and Nærøydalen and a view of the hairpin bends on the Stalheimskleiva, which sees you back to Bergen.

  • Days 3-4 » Tromso & Fjellheisen cable car

    Fly north to Tromsø where, depending on your arrival time, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy an optional afternoon excursion, choosing between the likes of kayaking on the fjord and summer husky strolls. You’ll then enjoy an included trip on the Fjellheisen cable car for spectacular views across Tromsø’s summer landscapes. It's all illuminated by the ever-present glow of the Midnight Sun.

  • Days 5-6 » Svalbard & boat tour

    Your Arctic adventure continues with a flight north to Longyearbyen in Norway’s Svalbard archipelago. Check in at Funken Lodge, where stunning views are paired with ultra-stylish rooms and the gourmet delights of the region’s best restaurant. It’s all a stark contrast to the wilderness outside, which you’ll explore the following day on a guided boat tour that brings you past giant glaciers and plunging fjords to the abandoned Russian mining town of Pyramiden where you’ll enjoy a guided tour and lunch. Along the way you’ll keep an eagle eye out for passing wildlife, which might include bearded seals, Arctic foxes and perhaps even polar bears.

  • Day 7 » Optional activities in Svalbard

    The next day is free to choose from a range of optional excursions. Daytime highlights include summer dogsledding on wheels, fjord kayaking and guided hikes on giant glaciers. And, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied In the evening, too. Perhaps head out to Camp Barentz in the Advent Valley, whose Nordic hosts will regale you with tales of polar bears and Svalbard adventurers as you enjoy bonfire coffee and a hot meal. Or, why not end your trip in style with a champagne tasting at the historic Nordpolet Liquor Store? You'll be treated to some of the cellar's 70 varieties, including some exclusive vintages.

  • Day 8 » Depart for UK
