This action-packed break will see you explore the jewel of northern Norway – the Lofoten Islands, where arctic fjords edge rugged peaks and unexpected white-sand beaches. You'll start with a stay in a traditional, ochre-red fisherman hut, enjoying fresh Norwegian fare and, by day, hiking and boating around the waterways and rocky inlets. A glamping adventure awaits next, where you'll cruise and kayak beneath soaring eagles and past breaching whales as you explore the region's emblematic fjords before bedding down in a cosy teepee under the Midnight Sun.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK to Svolvaer

Take your flight from the UK to Svolvaer, and on arrival, transfer from the airport to your accommodation, the picturesque Svinoya Rorbuer. Set on an idyllic island in Svolvaer harbour, Svinoya Rorbuer is a collection of traditional ochre-red fishermen cabins, all whitewashed wooden interiors, cosy rusticity and en-suites. Your rorbu will straddle the shorelines of the coves and inlets of the coastline, their stilted sides extended over the water to create an easy jetty for fishing boats to land. Enjoy meals in the cosy Borsen Spiseri, located in a quayside warehouse with characterful wooden floorboards and beams where you'll enjoy the likes of fresh halibut, stockfish pate and even smoked whale.

    Stay: Svinoya Rorbuer, Norway

  • Day 2 » Svolvaer

You’ve got a day at leisure today to explore the surroundings and enjoy the endless activities on offer. Perhaps head out hiking among the snaggletooth crags and winding streams of the surrounding shorelines, or head out on rib boat or fishing trips – the Norwegian Sea is teeming with tasty shoals – and catch sight of the Moskstraumen, a whirlpool system that gave rise to the word maelstrom. Elsewhere, the archipelago is great for sea kayaking, while Svinoya is also home to a fascinating museum detailing the ichthyological history of the islands. Come back to another night in your cosy cabin, relaxing by the fire and stepping out to witness the midnight sun's eternal glow.

    Stay: Svinoya Rorbuer, Norway

After breakfast, you'll store your luggage at Svinoya Rorbuer and embark on the first part of your glamping adventure, cruising through tranquil landscapes while spotting white-tailed sea eagles, seals, porpoises and even whales. Marvel at the magnificence of Trollfjord, a winding narrow fjord bordered by sheer mountain peaks. Then, enjoy an evening under the midnight sun on a long stretch of sugar-white beach as you hunker down in Lavvu teepees with cosy beds. Day four will see you kayaking through scenery evocative of faraway Caribbean lands, among forested atolls, hidden inlets and azure waters, stopping for a beach picnic accompanied by, with luck, the wildlife of the area, including puffins, otters and moose. Return to Svinoya Rorbuer for your final night.
