Get away to a remote, nine-room Arctic lodge to pair fjord-side wilderness with a touch of indulgence. Indeed, alongside Jacuzzi soaks under the Northern Lights and fine, chef’s-choice dining, you’ll also be treated to a full spread of included excursions. There’s everything from snowshoeing and whale-watching cruises to an aurora evening in a wilderness camp plus, for those visiting in February, the chance to go husky sledding. It’s all knitted together by included transfers and a night in frontier-town Tromso, Norway’s Arctic capital.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK/Tromso

Flying out to Tromso in the high Arctic, an included shuttle transfer will see you from the airport to your chic accommodation. It’s a cutting-edge proposition, complete with pretty harbour views and spa facilities. You’ll then have some time to explore this evening, taking in the city’s lively bar scene, seafood restaurants and heritage architecture. As always, keep your eyes peeled for the Northern Lights.

    Stay: Clarion Hotel The Edge

  • Day 2 » Tromso to Lyngen Experience Lodge & Northern Lights Experience

You have the morning and early afternoon to further explore Tromso. Late afternoon your included transfer will see you wind up to the snow-dappled Lyngen Alps, hopping on a scenic fjord ferry to arrive at your pine-log lodge. North facing, its uninterrupted sea views are perfect for spotting both porpoises and the Northern Lights, although the latter are perhaps best enjoyed from the outdoor Jacuzzi. Back inside, warm up with the sauna or by the fire before tucking into the first of your included chef’s choice dinners. Throughout, you can expect the finest in fresh, local ingredients, from mountain lamb and reindeer to fresh fish from the fjord.

It’s then time for your included Northern Lights experience. Your expert guide will lead you out into the forest to a hidden tent. Then, building a bonfire, eyes will turn skywards for a fantastic aurora display, weather permitting.

  • Day 3 » Whale Experience

You’ll begin today with a wildlife-watching boat trip. Between November and January, the humpback and springer whales are the obvious focus, but, even if you don't spot a whale, you’ll be treated to everything from sea eagles and grey seals to gorgeous rural views. Limited to just a dozen guests, it’s a delightfully intimate experience. It’s then time for lunch, coffee and snacks and an afternoon relaxing - why not book the sauna and jacuzzi and hopefully the northern lights will join you overhead.

  • Day 4 » Snowshoeing Experience

Today, you’ll be snap on your snowshoes and head out into the surrounding region. The area is packed full of vantage points and your guide will choose the best route according to the conditions - a popular trail brings you to the lighthouse at Lyngstuva. Where ever you head, you will be able to appreciate the peace and quiet of the mountains. You’ll return to an included lunch back at the lunch, leaving some time to relax by the fire, unwind in the sauna and enjoy the afternoon coffee and cakes. Alternatively, there’s the option for everything from kick-sledding and snowmobiling to ice climbing and reindeer sled rides. It all culminates with a final dinner back at base.
