A new ice hotel is set to be built in Tromso this year

UPDATE: This property is on hold for 2017, but stay tuned... we will post updates as soon as any become available.

It's no secret that we love Tromso, and we love ice hotels. So the news that Magic Ice Hotel is being built in Norway's winter capital is fantastic news for travellers.

The new hotel will be located in Kvaloya, near the Tromso Wilderness Center (Tromso Villmarkssenter). Magic Ice says that it will be a true "winter wonderland", with activities provided by the Wilderness Center like husky sledding (the kennel houses more than 300 dogs) and reindeer visits, as well as entertainment within the hotel itself.

The building is, of course, the main draw. All the ice sculptures throughout the space will be lit with colourful LEDs to show off the artistry of the international team of sculptors, who have also built other Magic Ice bars and galleries throughout Lofoten, Oslo, Bergen and St Thomas.

Below, see some preview images from Magic Ice. While the designs of the new ice hotel are still a firm secret, it's safe to say that it will be on par with the other fabulous ice hotels around Norway:
