Situated to the north of Tromso, Arctic Panorama Lodge is a boutique gem, hidden away on the island of Uloya in the middle of a spectacular fjord, framed by the snow-laden Lyngen Alps. Far from any light pollution, and right in the heart of the fabled aurora zone, it’s a prime spot for viewing the Northern Lights. And, alongside a full spread of included activities – expect everything from snowmobiling to kicksledding – you’ll also be treated to the very best in Norwegian hospitality as your hosts, Svein and Aud, share their stories of life in the frozen north. It’s all paired with a night in Tromso at a stylish harbour-front hotel.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » UK/Tromso

Fly out to Tromso and make your way to your hotel, located right on the harbour. Indeed, it’s perfectly placed, just a short stroll from some of the best pubs and restaurants and with wonderful views over the Arctic Cathedral to the city’s mountainous surroundings. After enjoying your hotel’s complimentary light evening meal, or heading out for something more substantial, take a stroll to the water’s edge to perhaps catch your first glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Stay: Clarion Collection Hotel With, Tromso

  • Day 2 » Arctic Panorama Lodge

With a free morning in Tromso, why not take the chance for a trip up the Fjellheisen Cable Car for sweeping views across the city? Alternatively, you might choose to book an optional excursion, perhaps a husky safari, a snowmobile adventure or even a whisky tasting session in the remote Lyngen Alps. Speak to our specialists for all the available options. Then, in the mid-afternoon, you’ll be met at your hotel for an included transfer to Arctic Panorama Lodge on Uloya Island. On arrival, you’ll check into your room before heading to the cosy restaurant for the first of your included dinners – a three-course feast showcasing the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. It’s all served to sweeping views across the fjord.

    Stay: Arctic Panorama Lodge

    Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Snowshoeing, kicksleds & Northern Lights

The next two days are given over entirely to included activities, all designed to make the most of the island’s natural beauty. You’ll begin with a snowshoeing adventure, your guide taking you far off the beaten track to reach the island’s remotest corners. Then, after lunch back at the lodge, you’ll have the chance to explore at your own pace via another popular local mode of transport – the kicksled. Free to use for guests these make for another wonderful, and energetic, way to take in the surroundings, and guides will be on hand to show you the ropes. Then, as night falls, your hosts will keep an eye out for the Northern Lights, sounding an alarm if they appear. Situated right beneath the auroral oval, the borealis can be seen in the skies above the lodge for more than 200 night of the year, so have your camera and tripod ready to hopefully capture the action.

    Stay: Arctic Panorama Lodge

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » Snowmobiling or husky sledding & evening at a lavvu

Your final full day at the lodge is packed full of even more Arctic fun. In the morning, you’ll have a choice between two winter classics – snowmobiling, or husky sledding. Both are equally thrilling and, whether you choose an engine’s roar or the patter of paws on snow, you’ll be treated to glorious views of the fjord and Lyngen Alps in the distance. There’s even the chance to drive yourself – let us know if you’d like to upgrade. You’ll then return to the lodge for lunch before an afternoon at leisure and the chance to look ahead to your final, included excursion. And, it really is a superb way to end your stay, as you head out to a traditional Samí lavvu tent to enjoy a evening of traditional food, storytelling and the chance to experience first-hand one of Europe’s oldest living cultures.
