Iconic hotels, island getaways and Midsummer festivities all under the Midnight Sun

» 7 day tailor-made holiday

» Price from: £1,710

Each year, under the endless Midnight Sun, Sweden comes alive with Midsummer celebrations. You’ll take in all the vibrant festivities with a farmhouse stay on a postcard-perfect island, fishing for salmon, kayaking and joining joyful feasts. You’ll then have the use of a hire car to further explore Swedish Lapland, staying at two truly unique properties. There’s the artist-carved beauty of the ICEHOTEL and the chance to stay among a pine canopy in UFOs and bird nests at the cutting-edge Treehotel. Along the way, included tours and dining bring it all to life.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » 21 June: UK / Hindersön Island

Flying out to Swedish Lapland, you’ll arrive at Luleå – a quaint, harbourfront town. Here, seemingly the only thing taller than its forested surroundings is the spire of its 19th-century cathedral. After a short tour, a ferry hop will bring you out into the archipelago where pretty islands are fronted by sandy beaches and dotted with red timber houses. One such island house is Hindersön’s Jopikgården – a traditional Swedish farm where you’ll spend the next two nights enjoying hot-tub soaks under the Midnight Sun, kayaking, salmon fishing and spotting wild seals. You’ll also be treated to the first of your included meals, with gourmet menus showcasing such local delicacies as wild game and foraged berries.

    Stay: Jopikgården, Luleå, Sweden

    Meals: Dinner

  • Day 2 » 22 June: Midsummer Eve

Today is your opportunity to enjoy Sweden at its most festive best with Midsummer celebrations in full swing. You’ll be invited to dinners, dances and songs as spirits soar with the sun – that great yellow ball never fully sets under the horizon. The feasts are a particular highlight; expect the likes of grilled salmon just landed on nearby shores and fresh strawberries covered in cream to be washed down with glasses of schnapps.

    Stay: Jopikgården, Luleå, Sweden

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 3 » 23 June: The Treehotel

After a lazy morning and a final lunch at Jopikgarden, a return ferry hop will see back to Luleå. Here, you’ll pick up your hire car to trace rushing rivers through old-growth forests, stopping off at the medieval Gammelstad Church Village before you arrive at the iconic Treehotel. An emblem for modern Scandinavian design, there’s everything from mirrored cubes and UFOs to whole cabins and a bird’s nest to choose from, each sited high in the canopy. End the day with an included two-course dinner, made from seasonal Swedish favourites.

    Stay: Treehotel, Sweden

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 4 » 24 June: Brittas Guesthouse

We’ve included an extra day at Harads to explore the forested scenery of Swedish Lapland. Whether it’s reindeer spotting in lake-dotted Korgen Nature Reserve, a meeting with the local indigenous Sami people or rafting, fishing and kayaking on the Lule River, there’s something for everyone. At day’s end, you’ll return to the early-20th-century charm of Brittas Guesthouse, a home away from home furnished with original antiques. It's just by the Treehotel and owned by the same people who founded it, so you can be assured of the same warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere.

    Stay: Brittas Guesthouse

    Meals: Breakfast

  • Day 5 » 25 June: ICEHOTEL 365

Crossing over the Arctic Circle, you’ll skirt mountains, stop off at garden-fronted lakes and take in Jokkmokk’s Sami history before arriving into the world-famous ICEHOTEL 365. An engineering feat made possible by the solar power of the Midnight Sun, the likes of its famed ICEBAR, artist-designed suites and ethereally lit halls are open year round. You’ll spend one night in a cosy, blonde-timber Kaamos room and one in an Art Suite. These beautifully sculpted rooms have been individually carved into frozen masterpieces, featuring everything from spindling staircases to doe-eyed deer.

  • Day 6 » 26 June: ICEHOTEL 365

With your majestic surroundings of mountains and rushing rivers illuminated by the ghostly glow of the Midnight Sun, you’ll want to set out and explore. For the active, there’s biking, hiking and river rafting, while the likes of wilderness dinners and skill sessions along with ice sculpting courses offer a touch of the unique. The cuisine at the ICEHOTEL is a particular delight. Overseen by a Michelin-trained chef, such delicacies as arctic char and reindeer steak are often dished up on plates of ice.
