This curated short break perfectly showcases the best of Sweden’s Luleå Archipelago. You’ll enjoy a stay in arguably the region’s cosiest lodge, embark on a series of extraordinary winter adventures and tuck into a full-board spread of locally sourced, seasonal food. It’s all set against the backdrop of one of Swedish Lapland’s most beautiful regions – a landscape of frozen islands and snow-dusted forests on the edge of the Baltic Sea.

Day by day itinerary

  • Day 1 » Fly to Luleå

Fly to Luleå, gateway to the forested islands of the Luleå Archipelago and your ever-so-cosy log-cabin home. A guided transfer will see you to your accommodation where a free afternoon will allow time to settle to your new wintry surroundings – a spellbinding wonderland of snow-clad pines and an endless expanse of frozen sea. To help you acclimatise, the first of your included three-course dinners will introduce you to some of the flavours of the Arctic, from smoked reindeer to freshly-caught salmon. And, don’t forget to watch out for the Northern Lights.

    Stay: Pine Bay Lodge, Luleå

    Meals: Dinner

  • Day 2 » Snowmobiling

After breakfast, it’s time to begin your programme of included excursions, starting with a thrilling snowmobile adventure across the Luleå Archipelago. In the company of your expert guide, you’ll learn how to drive these powerful machines before speeding off across the thick sea ice, winding along forest trails and passing remote fishing villages cloaked in winter’s chill. You’ll also pause for hot drinks and a hearty lunch, all the while keeping an eye peeled for any passing wildlife and learning a little of the region’s history and culture. Then, back at base, you’ll enjoy a lazy afternoon by the fire before another delicious dinner, served in the hotel restaurant.

    Stay: Pine Bay Lodge, Luleå

    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 3 » Husky safari

Today’s adventure is a true Arctic classic – a dogsledding trip, deep into the wilderness. The nearby kennels are home to 60 huskies, and you’ll have the chance to meet them before heading out on your own sled, taking turns with your partner to drive or enjoy the view. It’s a magical experience as the happily yapping dogs set off, suddenly silenced as they get to work, racing across the powdery snow. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to learn more about the life of a husky musher in the frozen north, before heading back to base for your included lunch and another afternoon relaxing. Then, in the evening, why not pick from a range of optional activities? There’s everything from Northern Lights snowshoeing to hovercraft tours, photography workshops and gourmet dinners at the lodge’s own Aurora Hideaway.
